What does BTU Stand for?
BTU stands for British Thermal Units and is a measurement of how much heat a radiator or under floor heating can output to increase the temperature of a room.
What is the difference between a Heated Towel Rail and Radiator?
Heated towel rails are designed to keep your towels warm & toasty and come in a wide range of sizes and colours. They're not for drying towels after a bath or shower though! Our bathroom radiators are still very stylish in a bathroom but they give out more heat and keep your bathroom warm.
What is a dual fuel heated towel rail?
A dual fuel heated towel rail connects to both your central heating system and the mains electricity using a T-piece adapter. You can use the central heating system in the winter to heat your HTR and then switch the adaptor to use electric in the summer to just keep your towels warm rather than heating the full bathroom. All of our heated towel rails are dual fuel compatible, one of our colleagues in your local showroom can help you select the right parts from our range to make it happen.
Will the colour or finish of a heated towel rail or bathroom radiator alter the heat output?
Yes, the outer finish of a towel warmer or radiator alters how heat is transferred into the bathroom. Painted finishes like Matt Black, Anthracite or White give off more heat whereas chrome will give off slightly less as it acts like a mild insulator. Our bathroom heating range includes all of these colours in various sizes.
What if my BTU figure is high and leaves me with no choice of radiators or heated towel rails for my bathroom?
You can add underfloor heating, it's a great way of not just keeping your floor toasty but also helping to keep your bathroom warmer. You can pair underfloor heating (UFH) with a heated towel rail (HTR). UFH is not as expensive to run as you think, speak to one of our depot colleagues who can talk you through your choice, or check out our handy guide here.
What if I would like more than one radiator or heated towel rail in my bathroom?
You can simply divide the total number of BTUs you need for your bathroom by the number of radiators or HTRs you'd like. Just make sure the BTUs from each heat source adds upto the total number needed for your bathroom.
Can a heated towel rail replace a radiator in my bathroom?
Yes, a HTR can replace a traditional radiator but it depends on the size of your bathroom. HTRs give off far less heat than a radiator; because of this they work best in small to medium bathrooms and you will also need a HTR which has a high BTU output. Use our handy calculator above to work out the BTU needed for your bathroom. You can also pair HTR with underfloor heating for maximum warmth.
What is Delta T50? (ΔT50)
Delta T50 (ΔT50) is the UK standard temperature measurement used to rate the temperature difference between the room and the radiator's heat output. Delta T50 value is typically used for domestic gas boilers and all of our radiators and heated towel rails have had their BTU output measured to this standard.
