What to look for when buying a bath

Clifton Trade Bathrooms- Trade Baths

Buying a bath is a big decision and a very personal thing.

It’s important that you don’t just buy any bath without thinking everything over, as there are a number of things to think about carefully before buying; like comfort, size, materials and guarantee. Just like anything else you buy for your home, you want your new bath to last a long time so no decision should be made without thinking everything over!

Here are 4 questions you should ask yourself:

1. Do you need a shower and bath combo? These baths are designed to give extra room in the shower area

2. Is the bath the main feature of your bathroom? Freestanding baths are beautiful features

3. What decor style do you like? Our roll top baths are ideal for that classic look. Tiling around your bath brings it into the room and building a ledge around it leaves room for essentials such as shampoos and maybe even a relaxing glass of wine!

4. What space is available? Our baths range from 1500mm to 1800mm to fit all spaces

Once you have answered these questions, you’ll be able to make a better decision.

Here are some top tips to help you buy the best bath possible:

Where is the bath made?

Where a bath tub is made can made a big difference to the quality of the product.

Many baths are made in China where sometimes the quality standards aren’t as high as the UK.

Materials can be used that aren’t specific to bathroom use. This makes them cheaper but does not make them better.

Clifton baths are made in Yorkshire to UK standards, so the quality is guaranteed.

How is the bathtub made?

Another important question to ask is how the bath is made. E.g. what was the process it went through?

Most baths start life as an acrylic sheet. This can vary in thickness and be as thin as 2mm. The thinner the acrylic the cheaper it is but the more see through it will be.

It is important that a sanitary grade acrylic is used as non-sanitary grades can react to heat and crack over time.

The acrylic sheet is moulded to shape and then sprayed with fibreglass to make it rigid and strong.

The more fibre glass the stronger it is and the more heat it will retain. Fibreglass is not cheap, so less expensive baths can have very little fibre glass reinforcement. This is not good particularly if you want to put a shower over the bath and will be standing in it, also if you like a good long soak in warm water rather than cold.

Clifton luxury baths are made from 4mm thick acrylic and sprayed twice with fibreglass and our Cliftonite extra strong baths are then sprayed again, you can tell the difference as they are green on the inside.

Does the bath come with a guarantee?

The guarantee will reflect the standard of materials and manufacture.
